Thoughts?: I fully enjoyed this film. All three, Rupert, Robert and Kimberley, did a great job. The movie is really messy, intense, fast-paced, and emotional. The movie, itself, looked great, as well. Lots of great sets, expressive colors, weird camera angles and clever editing. (Note: Just because Rupert was in Harry Potter doesn’t mean that this is a kid-friendly movie.) All in all, I’d recommend Cherrybomb but I know that this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea so if you don’t like it, don’t blame it on me.

American Virgin (2009)

Cast: Jenna Dewan, Brianne Davis, Rob Schneider, Chase Ryan Jeffery, Elan Moss-Bachrach, Bo Burnham.

Thoughts?: I never had any intention on seeing this movie, ever, until I heard from a friend that it was “actually kind of good.” I still wasn’t convinced…until I heard that Bo Burnham was in it! So, I got bored one night and finally decided to sit down and watch it. It was a very strange movie. I felt as if I were watching a movie geared towards being a family movie but it’s definitely not something you’d want to watch with your family. It was funny, at times. It was cute, at times. It was trashy, at times. I feel like the plot doesn’t really go anywhere and you can pretty much just predict what happens but it wasn’t as bad as I had thought it would be. I don’t know how/if I should recommend this movie but be warned: lots of nudity.

The Romantics (2010)

Cast: Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel, Anna Paquin, Adam Brody, Malin Akerman, Jeremy Strong, Candice Bergen, Elijah Wood, Rebecca Lawrence, and Dianna Agron.

Thoughts?: It was an interesting movie, to say the least but I wasn’t a huge fan. The soundtrack was sweet, Adam Brody was in it, the cinematography was gorgeous and I loved every outfit worn in the movie. There were a few moments where I was really into it but, as a whole, it was boring and it moved too slow towards an ending that tried to be creative and unique but the meaning got lost somewhere in the middle of the movie. I could’ve lived without it but the cast works great together so if you want to watch it, be my guest.

Grown Ups (2010)Written by: Adam Sandler and Fred WolfDirected...

Grown Ups (2010)
Written by: Adam Sandler and Fred Wolf
Directed by: Dennis Dugan

Synopsis: The death of their childhood basketball coach leads to a reunion for five old friends who decide to spend a weekend at the site of a championship celebration from years ago. Picking up right where they left off, the buddies, with their wives and children in tow, discover why age does not necessarily equal maturity.

Cast: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph, Joyce Van Patten, Ebony Jo-Ann, Di Quon.

Rated: PG-13 for crude material including suggestive references, language and some male rear nudity.

Thoughts: Personally, I thought that this movie would’ve been better if it wasn’t so family-oriented. The movie survives solely on serving up jokes, creative insults and physical humor. Honestly, hearing that all of these funny people were teaming up to make a movie got me extremely excited and I couldn’t wait for the movie. Sitting in the movie theater, however, at times, I couldn’t wait for the end of the movie. Don’t get me wrong, I laughed out loud probably more times than I can remember right now but all in all, the movie wasn’t a big hit with me. There were so many things this movie should’ve lived without. Examples: Rob Schneider’s older wife, Maria Bello breast-feeding her four-year-old son. All in all, I think it’d be a nice movie for a dad to go see with his kids but that’s all. If I were you, I’d wait until this one comes out on DVD. You can wait.

Killers (2010)Written by: Bob DeRosa and Ted GriffinDirected by:...

Killers (2010)
Written by: Bob DeRosa and Ted Griffin
Directed by: Robert Luketic

Synopsis: Three years after settling down, Jen and Spencer are living the ideal suburban life until Spencer, a former government assassin, learns, there’s a million dollar contract on his life and his number could be up at any moment and the hired killers that have been tracking him for the past three years could be anyone, even their neighbors.

Cast: Ashton Kutcher, Katherine Heighl, Tom Selleck, Catherine O’Hara, Katheryn Winnick, Kevin Sussman, Lisa Ann Walter, Casey Wilson, Rob Riggle, Martin Mull.

Rated: PG-13 for violent action, sexual material and language.

Thoughts: As sad as it is for me to say, I only went to see this movie because of Ashton Kutcher. I had no hopes for it at all but I was proven wrong, surprisingly. It’s not the best movie I’ve seen but it’s certainly not the worst. It’s cheesy and predictable but it’s funny and it has heart. I cannot overemphasize the vast improbability of nearly every element of this film but once you get past that, the film is enjoyable. Katherine Heigl plays the same character she’s ever played: uptight and awkward at times. In this movie, she’s pretty much playing her character in The Ugly Truth. There were moments in the film where I was actually cringing in embarrassment for her, but she gets better towards the end, as it always is for her. I honestly liked this movie and laughed out loud more times than I expected. However, if you’re not into romantic comedies or if you take yourself too seriously, I would say wait until this comes out on DVD. I don’t recommend this one but if you want to see it, I say, go for it. I wasn’t disappointed.

Get Him to the Greek (2010)

Written by: Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segel
Directed by: Nicholas Stoller

Synopsis: A determined young record company executive attempts to transport an unpredictable rock star to L.A.’s Greek Theatre in time for his highly anticipated comeback performance in this spin-off of the comedy hit Forgetting Sarah Marshall. As the countdown to the concert begins, the intern must navigate a minefield of London drug smuggles, New York City brawls and Vegas lap dances to deliver the rock star on time.

Cast: Jonah Hill, Russell Brand, Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs, Rose Byrne, Elisabeth Moss.

Rated: R for strong sexual content and drug use throughout, and pervasive language.

Thoughts: This movie was flat-out hilarious. After seeing so many commercials for it, I was a little hesitant and worried that they’d showed all the funny parts in the previews but they didn’t. I promise. This movie is just 109 minutes of pure fun and crude humor, but I mean, what else could you expect from the Apatow crew? The humor treads into the familiar gross-out jokes but there are also plenty of clever jokes, as well. There were a few scenes in the movie that seemed a bit long and I felt my mind wandering but then they’d come right back and I’d be laughing out loud again. I must say, P. Diddy actually stole the show on this one, for everyone out there like me who wasn’t sure why he was put into the movie. There were times when I was thinking to myself, “P. Diddy should be in this scene right now.” Before going to see this movie, think to yourself: Do you like Apatow’s movies? Do you like comedy? Do you like Russell Brand or Jonah Hill? If you answered no to any of these questions, go see another movie. But if you’re a fan of Apatow and do not get offended easily, I would recommend seeing this film.

Time for an Update.

I haven’t found the time to write reviews for every movie I watch lately.
Synopsis: The world is aware that billionaire inventor Tony Stark is the armored Iron Man. Under pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military, Tony is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind the Iron Man armor because he fears the information will slip into the wrong hands. In the sequel to 2008’s Iron Man, Stark is pitted against his Russian arch nemesis, Whiplash, and corporate rival Justin Hammer.

Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, Jon Favreau.

Rated: Rated PG-13 for sequences of intense sci-fi action and violence, and some language.

Thoughts: Do you remember the first “Iron Man” and how awesome it was? I know I do. And I remember hearing about the second one and praying that it would be just as awesome. Now, “Iron Man 2” is out and it is incredible. I didn’t think anything could top the first one but they’ve certainly done it. This movie was epic. I was never bored and I never wanted it to end. Robert Downey Jr. takes the cake with his role as Tony Stark and blows everyone else out of the water. With that, I will say that this cast was well-chosen and everyone did a great job, especially Sam Rockwell who made you laugh while you were hating him. I will admit that at certain points, the plot was a little messy and some things seemed rushed (mainly a plot involving Tony, his father and a new element) and some of the characters were a little underdeveloped, mainly just Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, but oh well. Everyone knows they’re there to set up for their roles in the next one. (Scarlett as the Black Widow, anyone?) The action scenes in this movie are very well-done and the cinematography is more noticeably beautiful in this one. I loved this movie so much that I can’t believe more people didn’t like it. I want everyone to go see this movie and enjoy it for what it is: a truly entertaining and top-notch blockbuster film.

Synopsis: A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a serial-killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another, but when they sleep, there is no escape.

Cast: Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker, Katie Cassidy, Kellan Lutz.

Rated: Rated R for strong bloody horror violence, disturbing images, terror and language.

Thoughts: So, when I heard they were remaking one of my favorite horror movies ever, “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” I was a little iffy but then I heard it was being produced by Michael Bay (“Transformers”) and I got excited. I had very high hopes for this film and I was let down. Hard. It’s not that the movie itself was bad, because it wasn’t, it’s just, we’ve already seen this movie, when it was made in 1984. And the original was so much better. Also, the acting in this movie was just not very good, especially Rooney Mara who had absolutely no emotions at all. Kyle Gallner was the only actor pulling his own weight in this movie so, two thumbs up to him. Replacing Robert Englund with Jackie Earle Haley was something I had trouble dealing with but in the end, that’s the least of this movie’s problems. Haley is a very creepy man and brought out a different side to Freddy but his lines were so cheesy and his voice sounded too much like Christian Bale’s “Batman.” It was very distracting. In it’s defense, however, the new Nightmare had me jumping every once in a while but there was no horror. When I first saw the original, I could barely sleep that night and a few nights after. Most of the ‘scary’ parts in the remake had me laughing and I slept just fine that very same night. I’m not going to say that they ruined this movie for me because they didn’t. My advice to anyone who still feels the need to go see this movie is this: go in and pretend that the original movie was never made. This movie is just like every other teen horror movie that comes out these days so you’ll know what to expect. But to anyone who wants to watch a good Freddy Krueger movie, I’d say keep your money and go watch the original.

Photo

Photo

Photo
